About Hackney Wick
Hackney Wick is an area of east London, located at the far east of the borough of Hackney, and is directly neighboured to Stratford, Homerton and Bow. The area is home to some of the quirkiest street art in the east of the Capital giving it a hipsteresque reputation, similar to that of Shoreditch and Bethnal Green.
In the early 20th century, Hackney Wick was a heavily populated industrial area of London where people worked long, hard hours yet were left in extreme poverty and discomfort. The relentless hustle and bustle of the streets, and the noxious fumes and resonating noise, were part of the reason why Eton College later launched an philanthropic urban mission to help reinvigorate the area and boost the quality of life of those who lived there in that era.
Hackney Wick has recently finished going through a period of even more stunning revival, benefitting from the 2012 Olympic developments and the migration, and endless imagination, of London’s young and growing artistic community.
Transport Links
The area has its very own tube station on the London Overground line, as well as numerous bus stops, giving rise to excellent transport links with the rest of London. Running straight through the centre of Hackney Wick is the A12 which, if you have a car, will connect you to Canary Wharf to the South or East Anglia if you continue to follow the road eastbound.
Leisure
The most notable attraction to the south-east is the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – this impressive location contains key facilities used in the London 2012 Olympics, such as the London Stadium, Lee Valley VeloPark and Copper Box Arena.
To the south-west you will find Victoria Park, 86.18 hectares of open natural beauty, which is used as a concert venue for numerous festivals each year.
